With its 8-year-old lead character, bright and imaginative design, and never-lets-up plotting, this prequel is perfectly suited to kids' attention span. Just tell them the Trade Federation are bad guys and don’t even try to explain what they are doing. Most interestingly, but not surprisingly, my kids loved the comedy provided by the droids and Ewoks in the original trilogy, but Jar Jar did not entertain them one bit, so it isn’t just adults who dislike Jar Jar.Īnyways this is easily the worst of the Star Wars movies, and while it’s perfectly fine for young kids to watch, they probably won’t understand any of it until their teenagers.
SOCIAL EMPIRES EPISODE 1 MOVIE
Ultimately the movie resulted in a lot of questions, most centered around the meaning of the words the Gungans were saying, but also what is a senate, what is a government, who are the other Jedis on the council besides Yoda. The only other excitement was seeing Yoda. There is action at the beginning of the movie, you have the pod race in the middle which is followed by a brief encounter with Darth Maui, and then the end is no doubt the most captivating part for children.

The highlights of this movie are few and far between. The movie is pretty confusing for kids as it relies heavily on dialogue that isn’t kid friendly and even worse, has many subtitles (Watto, Sebulba) and a very strange Gungan version of English. This movie however was not nearly as successful. My 7 year old was mesmerized and my 4 year old loved sitting in my lap and climbing on me. I’ve started watching the Star Wars movies with my kids, and original trilogy went over incredibly well. Note: The 3-D version of the movie renders some scenes (like the pod race) more exciting and others (like lightsaber battles) more intense. Widely considered to be the weakest of the films in this franchise, the film will likely entertain children with its straightforward story and imaginative design though it may also confuse those who've already seen the original films and aren't yet old enough to understand the concept of a prequel. The humor and plotting are aimed at children, but very young kids may not be ready for the movie's darker moments. The film's chief villain is a menacing, silent figure with a frightening appearance. A key moment in the film involves the lead character, a boy of about 8, leaving his mother forever.

The movie's climax cuts together a sword duel, two separate ground invasions, and a space sequence, all of which feature frequent lasers, explosions, and the deaths of minor characters and creatures. Viewers see the deaths of at least two major characters on screen, one of whom is sliced in half by a laser sword. Parents need to know that The Phantom Menace is a prequel to the classic sci-fi action trilogy and has a few scary and surprisingly violent moments, although there's no explicit gore.
